On August 1st, we had the pleasure of hosting the “Nutrition for Fertility” educational workshop, sponsored by Vytyl and presented by Elanie Welch, the Renegade Nutritionist. The workshop provided invaluable insights into the critical role nutrition plays in fertility and overall reproductive health. You can watch the entire presentation on our YouTube Channel @hopefulmamafoundation.

Here’s a recap of the key points covered:

1. Input = Output: How Nutrition Impacts Fertility and Pregnancy

Elanie kicked off the workshop with a fundamental principle: “Input = Output.” She emphasized how what we consume directly influences our fertility and the ability to carry a healthy pregnancy. Elanie explained the importance of a balanced diet rich in whole foods, vitamins, and minerals, and how these nutrients support hormonal balance, egg quality, and overall reproductive health. Participants learned practical tips for incorporating fertility-boosting foods into their daily meals, such as leafy greens, animal proteins, healthy fats, legumes, and carbohydrates from vegetables and fruits.

2. It Takes Two to Tango: The Importance of Sperm Health

In the second segment, Elanie addressed a crucial but often overlooked aspect of fertility: sperm health. She highlighted that sperm health provides the blueprint for fetal health and underscored the need for both partners to focus on nutrition. Elanie provided actionable advice on how men can improve sperm quality through dietary choices, such as consuming antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, and reducing exposure to toxins. She also discussed lifestyle changes that can enhance sperm health, including regular exercise, stress management, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.

3. In Eggcellent Health: Optimizing Egg Health

The final segment of the workshop focused on optimizing egg health to increase the success rates of natural conception, IUI, and IVF. Elanie detailed specific dietary recommendations to support egg quality, such as eating antioxidant-rich foods like berries, nuts, and seeds, and avoiding processed foods and trans fats. She also discussed the benefits of supplements like CoQ10, folic acid, and vitamin D in improving egg health.

Overview

The workshop was a tremendous success, offering both in-person and our live stream participants a wealth of knowledge and practical strategies to improve their fertility through nutrition. We are incredibly grateful to Vytyl for sponsoring this event and to Elanie Welch for sharing her wisdom with us.

She shares,  “In America, we equate “health” with merely the absence of disease. Let’s change that, and make true health, the kind of health where you are not just surviving, but thriving, the status quo.”
