When it comes to women’s health, it’s essential to be educated on the body’s natural processes. But I would also like to recognize the real women who have first-hand experience with fertility complications and treatments. When brave women share their stories, it reminds us that we do not have to bear any burden alone. Kandi Matherne is a wife and mother who experienced fertility complications and has shared her story with us. I enjoyed gaining insight into Kandi’s IVF journey and how it led to her beautiful family.
Kandi’s Story
In 2006, Kandi found out that her fallopian tubes were blocked, causing infertility. When this happens, sperm cannot reach an egg, nor can the fertilized egg travel to the uterus. You can imagine how devastating this news can be. The reality for Kandi was that she wanted a family and would need help to one day carry her own children. So her OBGYN referred Kandi to a specialist.
Kandi felt so supported throughout her IVF treatment. She received lots of guidance when facing concerns and questions along the way. Her husband was also eager to learn how to best support her. They even enjoyed administering Kandi’s fertility injections together!
When they reached the end of treatment, Kandi had conceived twins–Braden and Briann. They quickly became a dream come true. The twins are now healthy and thriving 16 year-olds. Both are making the most of their high school years. Briann is in soccer year-round, while Braden is committed to baseball. Thanks to IVF, these twins get to live a full life.
Stronger Together
IVF treatment is not an easy road and leaves room for plenty of emotions. It’s important to have a strong support system when facing this endeavor head on. Fortunately, Kandi and her husband were each others’. Kandi felt that IVF had minimal impact on her marriage. Her husband joined her at every appointment and was all in. They could not wait to hold their babies one day.
Kandi’s Advice
If you have been told IVF is your only option of creating a family, this is your sign. While many women may be struggling with the decision to move forward with IVF, success stories like Kandi’s encourage us to fight for what we want. Kandi wanted nothing more than to have a family of her own. Without IVF, her dream would look very different.
Her advice to women who are candidates for IVF is to trust the process and go for it, because holding those sweet babies is worth it all. According to her, there is no price tag, no comparison, and no greater love!
I would like to thank Kandi and her family for sharing their story with the world. Without strong women like her, we would never get to support one another through these tough times. If you are considering IVF, know there is nothing wrong with your body and it can do a lot more than you think. Consult with an OBGYN or fertility specialist if you are unsure of your options; asking all the questions is your right after all.
